A Very Hillel Hanukkah

Dec. 9, 2021

Hanukkah came early this year, which meant students were celebrating in the run-up to the finals.

With the most festive time of the year at risk of becoming the most stressed out, Hillel engaged in some creative counter-programming.

The "I Made It Out of Clay" celebration in the Levin Ballroom on December 5 let students mold menorahs and dreidels from clay, eat latkes and stuff and decorate sufganiyot (Israeli donuts).

Meanwhile, the perennial Hanukkah favorite, "A Rugrats Chanukah," was shown on a large screen.

Hillel sponsored events on all the other nights of Hanukkah including a campus-wide candle lighting ceremony.

"'I Made It Out of Clay' was an opportunity to bring the Brandeis Jewish community together on the last night of Hanukkah to sing, enjoy delicious foods and even to fulfill the childhood dream of actually making a dreidel out of clay," said Hillel student board president-elect Samantha Brody '24. "It was an evening of pure fun."
