Michael Berger is a partner in the Los Angeles office of law firm Manatt, Phelps & Phillips, serving as co-chair of its appellate practice group. He has argued four cases before the Supreme Court of the United States and is a frequent contributor to scholarly legal journals, including two articles published this year. He enjoys spending time with his four grandsons, ages 1-6. Michael Freed, P’98; Arnie Kanter; Michael Lewis; Mike Oberman; John Levin; Philip Paul; and Leonard Oshinsky enjoyed their 23rd annual trip to the Caribbean. The group reflected on their lives and families, reminisced about favorite Brandeis memories, and watched college and pro football games. Eli Segal, who died in 2006, was dearly missed. Michael Freed says, “It is impossible to overestimate how meaningful it is to spend time with a group of friends who have known each other for almost 60 years,” noting they plan to continue meeting yearly for the next 23 years — and when they reach 100 years of age, they will hold a vote to “see if we are fed up with each other or want to continue.”
