Alec Mkwamba, Heller MS’10, who hopes to advance international development through global health, was awarded a Global Health Scholarship at Johns Hopkins University. Sara Wall, Heller MPP’10, is community-housing programs manager for the housing and community investment department of the city of Los Angeles, where she develops and improves programs to build and preserve more affordable housing. Christopher Ives, Heller MA’11, built a tiny house on wheels using only nontoxic, natural, renewable, and socially and environmentally just materials. It’s his full-time home and office as he travels throughout North America, working on sustainability-focused media projects for nonprofits. Pamela O’Leary, Rabb MS’12, is a member of the board of directors of South Shore Peer Recovery, in Scituate, Massachusetts, providing leadership to a team that supports people recovering from substance abuse. Elissa Slocum, IBS MBA’12, and her family welcomed a daughter, Arlyss, in October. Charline Alexandre-Joseph, Heller MPP’13, is director of workforce development at MENTOR, a national mentoring partnership, where she influences workforce development systems and helps build the social capital young people need to succeed in their careers. Samuel George Anarwat, MA’13, PhD’18, successfully defended his doctoral dissertation, “Ghana’s National Health Insurance Model: Advancing Financial Risk Protection, Equity of Health-Care Access and Financial Sustainability.” He is an independent health-care financing consultant for the African Health Economics and Policy Association, and a community mental-health consultant for BasicNeeds in Ghana. He keeps his Brandeis connections strong as an ambassador for the university and a visiting research scholar. Ariel Meave-Ohrt, MA’13, met her husband, Chris, in Maine in 2012 during a Brandeis ski trip. Ariel was pursuing her master’s in anthropology, and Chris was on an exchange program with the University of Regensburg to study mathematics. The couple, who married in September, say they are grateful to Brandeis for their connection. Gerson Morales, IBS MA’13, and wife Alissa Moen, Heller MA’09, recently welcomed their second child, Luka Morales Moen. The family lives in Guatemala. Eric Ganeles, IBS MSF’14, a strong proponent of work-life balance, finds his through music. He plans to release three EPs this year. Yuki Kondo, Heller MA’14, who was married in 2019, planned to celebrate a wedding ceremony in China in April. Aaron Martinez, Heller MA’15, has adopted a cat, Dr. Leo Marvin. Ali Aljundi, Heller MA’16, is a policy and diaspora engagement adviser at Oxfam America. He credits Brandeis with giving him the professional skills needed for career success. After graduating from Heller, Mariam Begiashvili, Heller MA’17, returned to her home country of Georgia for two years before earning an Atlas Corps Fellowship in New York City. Living in New York is a dream come true, she says, and she’d love to hear from local alumni. Kathryn DePaola, Rabb MS’19, is the proud owner of a feline friend, Lana.
