In his free time, Chris enjoys astrophotography. In May, Deborah Bial, H’12, was the keynote speaker at Connecticut College’s 104th Commencement. Deborah is founder of the Posse Foundation, a national nonprofit that provides full-tuition leadership scholarships to students with exceptional potential. Stephen Canis is chief dental officer at Progressive Dental Concepts, a general dentistry group serving central Pennsylvania. Andrew Gelman was given the 2021 Mort and Judi Beroza Award for Man of the Year by the Israel Lacrosse Association, for his contributions to the development of lacrosse in Israel, particularly his role in the Israel masters program. In October, Gustavo A. Gelpí was sworn into office as a judge of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 1st Circuit in Boston, following his appointment by President Joe Biden and confirmation by the U.S. Senate. Previously, he served as a federal district judge for 15 years. Daniel Lockwood reports he has a poem in the 2022 volume of the “Writers Without Margins” anthology, the third year in a row his work has appeared in the collection. He recalls simpler times as a Brandeis student in verse: “Ode to the video game room, at Brandeis University / Libations of the video game, / All good things, in moderation ... / Don’t neglect your studies, too, … / Bring your books right home, with you, ... / A flash of light, / A sudden replay, on the pinball machine.…” Christopher Porter is the founder of Presto Records, an indie-music label active between 1989-93, whose catalog has been re-released on Spotify and YouTube. The label’s bands included Classic Ruins, the Trojan Ponies and Evol Twin. Reva Schlessinger Winston works in residential property management in New York City and hopes to connect with Brandeis friends living there.
