Alejandro Garcia, Heller PhD’80, is a professor emeritus at Syracuse University, where he served as the Jocelyn Falk Endowed Professor of Social Work and a faculty associate at the Aging Studies Institute. Neal Bermas, Heller PhD’81, is living in New York City after spending more than a decade in Southeast Asia. Before departing, he was honored with a Leadership Award from the American Chamber of Commerce in Vietnam. Larry Atkins, Heller PhD’85, a member of the Heller School board of advisers, is chief policy officer at the National Partnership for Healthcare and Hospice Innovation, the largest membership organization for not-for-profit hospices in the U.S. Jeanette Takamura, Heller PhD’85, is featured in Episode 9 of “The Legacy Interviews,” an online video series presented by the American Society on Aging. She is professor and dean emerita of the Columbia School of Social Work, and served as assistant secretary of aging at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services from 1997-2001. Alane Shanks, Heller MMH’87, is founder and CEO of Renga Consulting, which works with organizations in the education, for-profit and not-for-profit sectors on diversity, equity and inclusion; strategic planning; data-driven assessment; and leadership and career coaching. In December, Lawrence Siegel, GSAS PhD’88, celebrated the premiere of his opera “Si dice in Italia” at Teatro Castagnoli, in Scansano, Italy. It will be performed there again on Aug. 27, and will also be performed at Florence’s Teatro Niccolini on Sept. 10. Diane Disney, Heller PhD’89, in March received the American Society for Public Administration’s Donald C. Stone Service to ASPA Award.
