Doug Ravenel, GSAS MA’69, PhD’72, the Fayerweather Professor of Mathematics at the University of Rochester, and two co-authors won the 2022 Oswald Veblen Prize in Geometry from the American Mathematical Society, for their paper “On the nonexistence of elements of Kervaire invariant one,” which solves a geometry problem that has puzzled mathematicians for 50 years. The Veblen Prize is awarded every three years.
