Postdoctoral Associate Compensation
Postdoctoral Associates, having attained the highest degree in their field, continue to further their training by carrying out independent research, teaching, or other activities. Postdoctoral Associates, in contrast with externally-funded Postdoctoral Fellows, are supported directly by their sponsor’s funding and are considered Brandeis staff members. To advertise a PA position in your research group on this website, please contact postdoc@brandeis.edu.
Please reference the Brandeis Workday job aids for specific directions on how to appoint PAs.Appointment and Compensation Guidelines
Compensation and Benefits
The expected range of compensation will vary based on the postdoc’s experience level and discipline. In compliance with the Massachusetts Pay Transparency Act, advertisements circulated by Primary Investigators (PIs) for a Postdoctoral Associate (PA) position must include a numerical compensation range that has been approved by the Office of Postdoctoral Scholars.
PAs are considered Brandeis employees and are therefore eligible to receive university benefits.
The minimum compensation for a PA at Brandeis is $47,484 annually. The expected range of compensation will depend on experience and field.
Position Parameters
PA positions should be full-time, exempt positions with a maximum term length of 5 years (contact vpresearch@brandeis.edu to inquire about exceptions). After 5 years, PIs may consider transitioning to a Research Staff position.
If a candidate coming to Brandeis has 5 or more years of experience but a mentored position is required due to a change in field, they may be appointed as a PA.
If you are interested in hiring a fully remote candidate for a PA position, contact the Office of Postdoctoral Scholars (postdoc@brandies.edu) and the Vice Provost for Research Office (vpresearch@brandeis.edu). You will be asked to provide information regarding the candidate’s residency to ensure compliance with state-specific and Brandeis HR policies. Approval from the Provost is required to hire a fully remote PA.
