Letter from the Director

Jan. 8, 2024

To the Hornstein community; past, present and future:

I’d like to take this opportunity to welcome you to our corner of the internet, and to share more about what’s currently happening at Hornstein.

The Oct. 7 attacks in Israel and subsequent war against Hamas have rocked our community to its core. During this unprecedented time of crisis and uncertainty, it is more important than ever that Jewish organizations and the professionals who lead them are prepared to navigate the complex and nuanced web of issues facing Jewish communities across the world.

At Hornstein, this means continuing to prepare the next generation of Jewish leaders for meaningful and impactful service. It means investing in opportunities to make our educational offerings more accessible, which includes the launch of a new online graduate certificate that allows students to take courses regardless of their location and without leaving their full-time positions.

We will continue to grow and develop our on-campus dual-degree programs, helping students build exceptional leadership skills through scholarship, professional training and field experiences.

We are committed to empowering students with the critical knowledge to shape the future of the Jewish community, from Jewish federations and Hillels to advocacy organizations, camps, schools and start-ups.

Whether you’re a future student, alumni or community partner, we hope you find the Hornstein program to be an essential and invaluable pathway on your journey to a professional role in the Jewish community.

All best wishes.

Sincerely,
Fern Chertok
Interim Director
