Brandeis Chemistry Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Statement
The Department of Chemistry and its Committee on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (comprised of faculty, staff, undergraduates, and graduate students) are working to implement concrete goals and actions that address systemic racism and bias, both conscious and unconscious, and to make our Department a safe and welcoming environment for all members of our community. Our efforts are directed toward
- creating a working and learning environment that respects all individuals, regardless of their background, career stage, or status;
- educating and training department faculty, staff, and students about how implicit and explicit biases affect decision making, and how to recognize and address biased behavior;
- facilitating the recruitment, retention, and advancement of talented students, faculty, and staff from historically underrepresented populations;
- building a supportive community of students, staff, and faculty in which all members feel appreciated and valued for their unique experiences and contributions.
If you are interested in getting involved with our department’s ongoing efforts to increase diversity and inclusion, please contact the Chemistry department.
