Benefits of online learning
Brandeis University is known for academic rigor and excellence. That doesn't change when selecting our online learning programs through Brandeis Online. Our online programs are crafted by esteemed faculty who are experts in their fields, ensuring that you receive a world-class education that is both intellectually stimulating and professionally relevant.
In 2022, the National Center for Educational Statistics found that about 10 million college students took at least one online class. That same study also found that 53.5% of graduate students chose an online program. By 2030, they expect a 20% increase in online enrollment.
Despite the recent name recognition and popularization of online learning since the COVID-19 pandemic, distance learning has a long and successful history, with online learning existing since the 1960s. Innovative universities like Brandeis were founded to create unique and accessible education opportunities to students, offering online education for decades.
Here are some of the benefits to online learning:
1. Convenience
Life doesn't always adhere to a traditional schedule, and neither should your education. Online learning is a great fit for students who can’t rationalize commuting at late hours across sizable distances for their education. Your education is wherever your wifi is. Learn the material, communicate with professors, and complete exams from wherever you are.
2. Flexibility
Many online learning programs, including Brandeis Online, are asynchronous. We believe you should be able to pursue your academic goals without sacrificing personal or professional commitments. With 24/7 access to course materials and a supportive online community, you have the freedom to learn on your own terms.
3. Industry Expertise
With the introduction of the world wide web in 1989, the world became truly globalized through a virtual connection of information. You can connect with people from almost anywhere. At Brandeis, our faculty are award-winning leaders in their fields and bring a wealth of relevant experiences and connections to their classrooms, preparing students to succeed in their careers with their unique understanding of the tools, tactics, and trends that define their fields today.
4. Accessibility
Online learning is for everyone. Even outside of the classroom, computers are often utilized as assistive technology tools. Harnessing the latest advancements in educational technology, our courses utilize a variety of teaching methods and activities to connect with students.
Just like all programs at Brandeis, we build all Brandeis Online programs, course materials, and events with students with disabilities in mind, training instructors and learning designers to use teaching methods and tools that are accessible for all. Because creating education opportunities for everyone means everyone.
5. Diversity
Diversity is not just a buzzword at Brandeis Online—it's a fundamental aspect of our community. By joining our online programs, you'll have the opportunity to engage with a diverse group of classmates from around the globe, bringing unique perspectives and experiences to the virtual classroom.
The National Center for Educational Statistics found that students of color are increasingly turning to online higher education. This includes Black students making up 23.3% of online college students as opposed to only 12.5% of in-person college students.
We believe that diverse backgrounds and ideas are crucial to academic excellence. It’s part of our mission as a nonsectarian university founded by members of the American Jewish community. Our commitment to inclusivity ensures that every voice is heard and valued.
6. Collaborative Learning
Think online learning means an end to collaboration and learning from your peers? Think again. Harnessing the latest advancements in educational technology, Brandeis Online delivers an immersive learning experience that is both dynamic and interactive. From multimedia-rich course content to virtual simulations and collaborative tools, our online platform is designed to enhance your learning journey and foster meaningful connections with peers and faculty.
7. Personalized Support
Just because you’re completing your coursework alone, doesn’t mean you’re in this alone. From academic advisors and faculty support, communication throughout online learning is even easier. You can ask questions to professors and meet with advisors the same way you would in an in-person course—just online.
At Brandeis Online, we’re here to provide you with the guidance and assistance you need to thrive in your academic journey. Whether you have questions about course materials, need help navigating the online platform or are seeking advice on your career goals, we’re always just a click away.
8. Same Accreditation
At some universities, including Brandeis, online students receive a degree or certificate without any official mention of the program being online. This means that, at Brandeis, your degree mark you as a graduate of the Brandeis University Rabb School of Continuing Studies, not Brandeis Online. You exercised the same academic prowess as your peers at in-person Brandeis classes and we believe you deserve to be recognized for that.
