The Brandeis National Committee’s Long Island chapter honored Tania Grossinger, who spoke to the group about her book “Memoir of an Independent Woman: An Unconventional Life Well Lived.” The BNC members particularly enjoyed hearing excerpts from the chapter “The Brandeis Years.” The work of artist Sidney Hurwitz is featured in an exhibition catalog from Boston University’s Stone Gallery. The publication includes an essay, and etchings and watercolors of urban subject matter — bridges, smokestacks, train trestles, factories and steelworks — that evoke a vital industrial age. After graduating from Brandeis, Sidney studied art in Germany, at BU, and at Maine’s Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture.
