Since retiring as an accountant in 2003, Gary Grossman has traveled the country to sing Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 with local choruses. He was featured in a December story in the Casper (Wyo.) Star-Tribune when he joined about 50 people, mostly teenagers, to sing the final movement. The New Yorker, who first heard the choral symphony as a Brandeis student, has performed the piece 64 times — in places as far away as Iowa, Wisconsin, Florida, Kansas and Alabama, and
as close as Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center. “I just love doing this,” Gary told the newspaper. “I just absolutely love doing this.”
