Matthew Axelrod has been cantor at Congregation Beth Israel in Scotch Plains, New Jersey, since 1990. His third book, “Raising the Bar Mitzvah: Reimagining What Our Kids Learn,” was published by Rowman & Littlefield in August. In 2021, Jeffrey Bollinger formed a new law partnership, Moder Bollinger Melamed, based in Beverly Hills, California. The firm focuses exclusively on family law. Beth Gates-Rivera is associate director, marketing operations, at the U.S. office of biopharmaceutical company Hutchmed. Previously, she was at marketing and communications company VMLY&R for 17 years. Karen Klatzkin, who has a doctorate in English education from Teachers College at Columbia University, teaches English at Borough of Manhattan Community College, where she was recently nominated for a Distinguished Teaching Award. She is married to software engineer Greg Thorson; signing the ketubah at the wedding were Eric Mulkowsky ’90 and Abbe Krieger ’89, the latter of whom also played a Bach flute sonata during the processional.
