Ruth Porter Bernstein was inducted into the Win­­throp (Massachusetts) High School Athletic Hall of Fame. She has been inducted into the Joseph M. Linsey Brandeis Athletics Hall of Fame twice: first, as a member of an undefeated Judges basketball team, and, second, as the first female president of the Friends of Brandeis Athletics. Robin Brooks shares a relatable quote heard on an episode of the “Monk” TV series: “Growing old should have taken longer.” Phyllis (Goldberg) Glazerman reports many friends reached out to offer support after the death of her husband, Al, on March 8, including Gail Brecher Tomberg, P’85; Judy Stavis; Sandy Greenberg; Muriel Garfinkle Cohen; Rose Shirwindt Weinberg, P’92; Linda Feinberg Alwitt, G’26; Marcia Ullian Jackson, P’87; Madelyn Bell; and Jules Bernstein, who shared Al’s profession (labor lawyer). “My husband always felt our Brandeis friends were like family,” Phyllis writes. “How lucky we’ve been to have them in our lives.” Deena Metzger’s book “La Vieja: A Journal of Fire” was published by Hand to Hand Press in February. Glenda Sakala lives near the shore in Rhode Island and keeps busy with SilverSneakers, mah-jongg, and spending time with friends and family.
