Karen Richards Sachs '83
Elected January 2024
After receiving her BA in Politics from Brandeis University, Sachs started her career as a caucus field organizer for the Mondale for President Campaign and then moved on to broadcast journalism, winning multiple awards as a reporter, anchor, and producer. She advanced into the Public Affairs arena, first working for icon Norman Lear, and then moving to The Interscope Group as Vice President, helping to set up and oversee a multi-million dollar political and charitable giving program. After relocating to Texas, Sachs worked at The Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth to coordinate Special Projects, including their 100th anniversary celebrations and publications.
Karen has served on the Boards of The Archer School for Girls, Los Angeles, where she helped create and supervise their first Major Gifts Campaign, The Jewish Journal of Los Angeles, and The Jewish Federation of Tarrant County, to name a few. She has worked tirelessly in her communities in a variety of volunteer positions including as a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA), anchor for The Jewish Television Network and through Koreh LA’s literacy program.
She is the proud daughter of Dorothy Richards, a former President of the Brandeis National Women’s Committee Los Angeles Chapter. And an equally proud mama of her three adult children. Her husband, David A. Sachs, serves as a Trustee of Northwestern University.
