Sheltered English Immersion (SEI) Stand-Alone Course

The Brandeis Education Program has been approved by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education as a provider of a For-Cost SEI Endorsement Course.

Course Information

ED 175a, Teaching English Language Learners, Pre-K to 12, is offered fall (August to December) and spring (January to May) semesters.  The class meets at Brandeis for three hours, one afternoon each week, for 13-14 weeks.  Successful completion of ED 175a yields 4 graduate credits.

This course is open to core or non-core academic educators licensed in Massachusetts who are employed in a school system while taking the course.  This includes school counselors and psychologists, if they provide direct instruction to students.  Educators are not required to have an English Language Learner in their classroom.

Application and Registration

The application process must be completed no later than two weeks before the start of classes.  Because space is limited, we recommend starting the process in the middle of the semester before you plan to take the class.

  1. Email resume and transcripts to education@brandeis.edu   
        In the email:  
           a.  use the subject line:  SEI Stand Alone Course Application.
           b.  indicate the semester for which you are applying,
           c.  schedule an interview with the an Education Program Advisor.
  2. Complete the Special Student Application and Instructor Approval Form and bring them to the interview.

Admission to any course is contingent upon: (1) the instructor's approval, (2) fulfillment of any prerequisites, and (3) space availability in the course.

Costs

Tuition is $3,325. Payment in full is due on or before the final day of registration. Vouchers can be presented at the time of registration.

Application for spring 2020 class is due anytime between November 15, 2019 and January 2, 2020 (absolute deadline). Spring 2020 classes begin January 13 and end April 29, 2020.

Application for fall 2020 class is due anytime between July 1 and August 15, 2020 (absolute deadline).  Fall 2020 classes begin September 2 and end December 8, 2020.
