Writing the Nation: Hebrew and Japanese Literature - Introducing Shirah Malka Cohen

We are pleased to introduce our newest doctoral student, Shirah Malka Cohen. Born in Israel and raised in Japan, Shirah completed her undergraduate studies in liberal arts at Doshisha University in Kyoto, during which she also spent time at Leiden University in the Netherlands. Her main interest is the influence of nationalism on literature, especially in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Shirah wrote her honor's thesis about the influence of nationalism on the development of modern Hebrew and modern Japanese literature. In her graduate studies, she hopes to further delve into this topic, focusing on Hebrew, Japanese, and English literature.
