RTI/Brandeis MakerLab Collaborates with Boston's Loop Lab to Develop Open Source Courseware: Drone Curriculum for Cinematography

In mid-August, the RTI department built and ran a 1-week curriculum for the LOOP Lab on using Drones for Aerial Photography and filmmaking. This includes everything from learning to fly a drone, up to getting an FAA pilot's license and insurance. As part of the course, each day the students developed a resource to help them them with drone operations: from a flight plan template with insurance and map analysis, to maintenance logs and pre-flight checklists. On the last day all the students took a practice FAA 107 Pilot's test and they would have all passed!

The Loop Lab is a BIPOC-led nonprofit social enterprise specializing in media arts internships and digital storytelling in Greater Boston. Their mission is to empower Womxn and People of Color in the media arts to develop careers in audio/video through job training and job placement. Brandeis MakerLab hopes to make the courseware available as an open educational resource - and to run this same workshop material locally or virtually for the Brandeis Community on a regular basis.
