A letter by Rabbi Steven Schwartz that described how college changed his life appeared in the March 23 New York Times. In it, Steven describes his time at Brandeis: “My mind grew, opened up. My heart changed. I became, essentially and fundamentally, who I am today.” A conversation with one professor was especially life-altering, Steven writes: “I walked out of his office and thought of myself in a different way. Suddenly there was an intellectual curiosity, almost a kind of muse, that I am still following. I wonder if he ever knew?” After the letter was published in the Times, Steven wrote psychology professor Joe Cunningham to let him know that he was that inspiring professor.
