Winter Housing Information

Residence Halls close for Winter Break at 12 noon on Thursday, December 21, 2023 and will reopen on Sunday, January 7, 2024. Anyone staying on campus between these dates will be considered a Winter Housing resident. Winter Housing is only available to students living in the same on-campus housing assignment for the Fall and Spring semesters.

Apartment Residents: Eligible residents living in Charles River, 567 South Street, Foster Mods, or Ridgewood looking to stay for Winter Break do not need to check in or out during Winter Break and will not be charged housing fees.

Non-Apartment Residents: Eligible residents living in
East, Massell, North, Rosenthal, Skyline, Village, or Ziv looking to stay for Winter Break will need to check in and may need to check out during Winter Break and will be charged housing and dining fees.

Winter Housing Check In (Non-Apartment Housing Only)

Winter Residents in non-apartment housing must check in through their MyHousing Portal to gain access to their winter housing and dining.
  • Students planning to stay on campus immediately after closing (December 21st) can check in any time before the end of the semester to maintain access to their housing and dining.
  • Students planning to leave prior to closing and return during Winter Break should check in on the day they are returning to campus to reactivate their housing and dining.

Winter Housing Check Out (Non-Apartment Housing Only)

Check out is only required if a Winter Resident in non-apartment housing will be leaving for the remainder of the break. Winter Residents who have already checked in can check out through their MyHousing Portal.

To avoid excess charges, it is imperative for students who will not be staying on campus for the entirety of Winter Break to check out when leaving campus. Winter Billing will be based on the Check In and Check Out dates recorded through the student's MyHousing Portal.

Winter Break Housing and Dining Costs

Residents living in non-apartment style residence halls without private kitchens (North, Massell, Rosenthal, East, Skyline, Village and Ziv Quads) will be charged $50/day up to $500 for Winter Break Housing based on occupancy.

Residents who do not have a kitchen within their living space, and stay for any part of Winter Break Housing are required to have a meal plan. The Winter Break meal plans will be charged $30.50/day up to $488.00 based on occupancy, not usage.

Total housing and dining costs will be communicated via email after the winter break housing period has concluded. Winter Break Housing/Dining charges will be posted to student accounts in mid-January and will be due February 1st. A registration hold will be placed on unpaid balances February 1st and may impact your enrollment for the spring term. All other charges on your account remain due on the published due date.

If you have any concerns regarding funding, you can email emergencyfunds@brandeis.edu to request assistance.
