Frances Forman’s book “The Rest Between Two Notes” won an honorable mention at the International Photo Awards. Gary Lander writes, “I am reading more than ever in COVID times. I just completed ‘Learning on the Left,’ by Professor Emeritus Stephen J. Whitfield, PhD’72. It includes an overview of campus political intellectual life from 1948-69; critical reviews of the life and works of Professors Coser, Levy, Manuel, Maslow, Marcuse, Rahv and Roche; and profiles of some illustrious alums, including Abbie Hoffman ’59; Angela Davis ’65; and Thomas Friedman ’75, H’88. Would love to hear from others who have read it.” Elisa (Hill) Mullins reports a group of alumnae are getting together for a monthly Zoom meet-up “to maintain our friendship of 50-plus years and our sanity.” Participants, who live across the U.S. and around the globe, include Ellen Katz Block, Patricia Cohen Caesar, Phyllis Cohen ’66, Lisa Finkelstein, Maxine Haft, Olubanke King-Akerele, Hermine Stern Leiderman, Sharon Goldring Levine, Elisa Hill Mullins, Ellen Novack ’68, Phyllis (Rebell) Osterman, Sarah Rosen-Webb, Eileen Sklaroff ’68 and Marcia (Raden) Wagschal. Leda Schubert will celebrate the publication of two picture books this year. “Nathan’s Song” (Dial Press) comes out in the spring. “Dogs Love Cars” (Candlewick Press) will be released in the fall. She says, “At age 16, I wrote in my journal, ‘All I want to do is write children’s books and live in Vermont.’ I’ve lived in north-central Vermont pretty much since graduation, but the children’s book dream took much, much longer to come true.” Norma (Goldstein) Shulman, P’95, P’00, writes she was honored to be a Massachusetts elector and cast her votes for Joe Biden and Kamala Harris on Dec. 14.
