Howard Beckman is a physician who serves as senior consultant at Common Ground Health, which collaborates on strategies for improving health in Rochester, New York, and the Finger Lakes region. He was the clinical lead for a project that increased blood pressure control in the area from 58% to 79%. He also continues to publish, including a paper titled “Won’t You Be My Doctor: Four Keys to a Satisfying Relationship in an Increasingly Virtual World.” Happily married to Ellen Leopold, Howard reported he was looking forward to welcoming his fifth grandchild in February. Lloyd Daniels, a founding member of the Afro-American Organization at Brandeis, shared this message at the end of last year: “In This Time of Winter’s Sorrow / Approaching Time’s Rebirth / May We Say on This Good ’Morrow / To All Godspeed / And / Peace on Earth.” Robert Panoff, an Internal Revenue Service Advisory Council member for the 2020-22 term, has been selected to serve as chair of the advisory council’s small business/self-employed subgroup. Bob’s law practice, based in Miami, specializes in tax litigation and compliance matters. Son Joseph is a radiation oncologist at Miami Cancer Institute. Bob writes, “Unfortunately, cancer does not care about COVID-19. Joseph, like tens of thousands of other dedicated health-care professionals, has been doctoring through the storm. G-d bless them for doing so.” Theoretical physicist Robert Rosner has been elected to the presidency of the American Physical Society. He will assume the position in 2023, becoming the eighth University of Chicago scientist to do so. Ellen C.
