New York Times columnist Thomas Friedman, H’88, delivered the keynote address at the 2020 Semiconductor Industry Association Leadership Forum and Award Celebration. His speech addressed U.S.-China relations, escalating trade tensions and overall geopolitical turbulence. In October, he joined President Ron Liebowitz for a virtual Q&A titled “Thinking Ahead to the Presidential Election.” Ellen Michaelson’s debut novel, “The Care of Strangers,” which won the Miami Book Fair/de Groot Prize, was published in November by Melville House. She is a physician in Portland, Oregon; an assistant professor of medicine at Oregon Health & Science University; an MFA graduate of Pacific University; and vice president of the board of the Northwest Narrative Medicine Collaborative. Her work has appeared in Creative Nonfiction, Portland Monthly, and Literature and Medicine. University Professor Jonathan D. Sarna, MA’75, was honored as a 2020 Superstar by Combined Jewish Philanthropies of Greater Boston, in recognition of his volunteer efforts. He serves as chair of the CJP Jewish Journalism Task Force.
