Moodle 4 implementation

February 5, 2024

Dear Faculty and Staff,

I am writing to update you on the progress of the Moodle 4 implementation. Last July, we communicated the University's decision to implement Moodle 4 as our new learning management system, replacing LATTE (Moodle 3). This will be more than a simple version upgrade. The new Moodle 4 platform addresses the limitations of the existing product identified by faculty and students over the past few years. Importantly, it allows us to leverage customization options that tailor the platform to Brandeis's current and future needs.

During the fall semester, the Academic Technology Advisory Committee (ATAC) convened faculty-engaged working groups focused on functionality, policy, and rollout to gather valuable input and ensure a smooth transition. Working groups have provided guidance and feedback for the implementation work, helping shape our new LMS. The project is on track to be available for faculty in late spring to start planning for classes starting in the Fall 2024 semester.

Once implemented, a Moodle LMS Steering Subcommittee, reporting to ATAC, will replace the LATTE Subcommittee and continue to assess faculty and student needs relating to the LMS — ensuring that Moodle continues to provide a robust LMS tailored to the needs of Brandeis in the years ahead.

Thoughtful planning is taking place to ensure faculty are supported throughout this transition. To learn more about the Moodle 4 project and upcoming training opportunities, please visit the Moodle 4 LMS Implementation website

Sincerely,
