Meet the Staff

Stephanie Grimes
Assistant Dean of Students/Director of Student Activities

In the spring of 2014, Stephanie Grimes was promoted to Assistant Dean of Students/Director of Student Activities. In this role, she will oversee the Department of Orientation and will continue to supervise the programs and services provided by Student Activities. As a member of the Dean of Students Office, she serves as a liaison between the University and the students in moments of crisis or challenge. 

In July of 2004, Stephanie Grimes was appointed as the Director of Student Activities, but she was no stranger to Brandeis. Before becoming the director, she held positions including Associate Director of Student Activities, Activities Adviser and Quad Director. Her complete Brandeis experience includes 15 years of service. Before joining Brandeis, she worked as the Assistant Director of Student Involvement at Chowan College in Murfreesboro, N.C. She holds a master's degree in College Student Development and Counseling from Northeastern University and a bachelor’s degree in Business Management from Bryant College (now Bryant University). She manages the day-to-day operations of the department, including but not limited to staff supervision, budget management, marketing and promotion and vision for the department. She directly advises the Fall Fest (Family Weekend) program alongside the associate director and Senior Week. When not in her home in the Shapiro Campus Center, she is home with her husband and her son.

Steve Pagios
Associate Director of Student Activities
Steve joined Brandeis in the spring of 2014. Prior to coming to Brandeis, Steve worked at Quinnipiac University as an Assistant Director in the Student Center & Campus Life and at The University of Akron as the Residence Life Coordinator for Co-Curricular Programs & Activities. He graduated from Bowling Green State University with a master's degree in College Student Personnel and Assumption College with a bachelor's degree in Organizational Communication. At Brandeis, Steve's major responsibilities include advising Student Events and the Student Service Bureau, as well as co-advising Fall Fest. Outside of Brandeis, he is also heavily involved in volunteering regionally and nationally with the National Association for Campus Activities (NACA). When not wearing his "work hat," Steve can be found at a local concert, Red Sox game, or traveling the country to explore new places!

Kelly Whiffen
Department Coordinator

Kelly Whiffen joined Brandeis in 2010 as the Department Coordinator of Student Activities and Community Service. Before coming to Brandeis, she worked in several coordinating roles, including Weekly Ad Coordinator and Schedule Coordinator at CVS Caremark and Communications Coordinator at Camp West Woods. She also worked with students as a gymnastics coach. Kelly holds a bachelor's degree in Journalism from Ithaca College, where she was actively involved in campus life as a gymnast for the school's Varsity team, copy editor for the school's newspaper and co-director of a Christian retreat. Outside of Brandeis, Kelly enjoys running, reading and volunteering with her church.

Leigh Hilderbrandt
Marketing and Box Office Manager

Leigh Hilderbrandt joined Brandeis in 2000 as the Box Office and Subscriptions Manager for the Theater Department and moved over to Student Activities in 2011, operating Brandeis Tickets and handling marketing for the department  She coordinates with student clubs and organizations and university departments to provide ticket services for events held throughout campus, from theater  and music performances to lectures and conferences to cultural shows and dance parties, and even some off-campus events too. Prior to Brandeis, Leigh worked at the Weston Playhouse Theatre Company in Weston, VT and the Hippodrome State Theatre in Gainesville, FL. In addition to theater, she has entertained a variety of career interests, including veterinary assistant and 911-communications. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Theater and Visual Arts from Penn State University.  Outside of Brandeis, Leigh spends time with her dogs and cats, fosters and volunteers for animal rescue groups, does DIY projects at her 1720 home, and works as a certified personal trainer.

Darryl David
Student Activities Operations Specialist

Darryl David, a TYP alum and class of 2009 graduate, joined Brandeis October 2012 as Student Activities Operations Specialist. Prior to returning to Brandeis, Darryl spent two years working with Orchard Garden Pilot School’s special needs community and one year prior as the METCO Specialist at Lincoln Sudbury Regional HS. He received a degree in Sociology from Brandeis University and continues to use his professional and personal experiences to better his community. Outside of Brandeis, Darryl, a Brooklyn, NY native, enjoys DJ’ing at various clubs in the MA & NY areas.

Robert Steinberg
Student Activities Specialist

Robbie joined the Department of Student Activities in the fall of 2014. After graduating from Brandeis in 2013, he spent a year working in a variety of fields, including outdoor theater production, corporate banking, and audiovisual services for corporate events and weddings. He left Brandeis with degrees in Psychology and Education Studies, and a minor in Theater Arts. While on campus, he served as a Theater Assistant for the Shapiro Campus Center Theater, Coordinator of Student Production Services, and as President of Tympanium Euphorium. Away from work, Robbie enjoys seeing theater productions and going on adventures.

The Department of Student Activities is located on the second floor of the Shapiro Campus Center in room 203. Please stop by to meet us and get involved.

We are open Monday-Friday 9 am - 5 pm.
