How to Reach Us
If you are interested in being seen at the PCC, please call 781-736-3730 or stop by during business hours to schedule an intake. Starting August 24, 2015, the PCC is open for appointments Monday-Friday, 8:30 am-4:30 pm. When you come for your intake session, please arrive 20 minutes in advance to complete registration paperwork. Bring your medical and psychiatric history with you, as well as a copy of your insurance card. At your intake appointment, you will meet with a clinician who will discuss your needs, and recommendations will be made for your treatment. All students who are interested in receiving medication through the PCC also need to be engaged in therapy and should follow the same process for scheduling an initial intake. If your need is urgent and you need to be seen before your scheduled intake, you may present for urgent care hours which are held Monday-Friday at 11am and 3pm. We ask that you also arrive 20 minutes early for urgent care hours to register.
If you are under 18 years of age, we need a parent’s permission to treat you. Please have a parent fill out the Consent to Treat Form and fax it to the Counseling Center before your evaluation appointment.
If your need is urgent, we offer Urgent Care Hours, Monday-Friday at 11am and 3pm. Our urgent care hours are intended for students confronting serious mental illness, current or recent traumatic crises, and life-threatening circumstances. The Urgent Care Assessment Form can be helpful to look at if you are trying to determine if you are needing urgent care. If your circumstances don’t warrant urgent care, but you are feeling that you could use an evaluation at the next available evaluation time, we can accommodate that. If you are not already a client at the PCC we need you to come about 20 minutes ahead of time to register if you come for Urgent Care. Once you have your urgent care appointment, you will still need to come back for an intake appointment in order to receive recommendations about the type of services that will best meet your needs.
Our policy is that students receiving medication through the PCC need to be engaged in regular, ongoing therapy. Recommendations for the type and frequency of therapy are made following an initial intake at the PCC with one of our intake clinicians. We see therapy as primary and our psychiatry services as an additional support that may be beneficial for certain individuals once they are engaged in regular therapy. For students who are primarily requesting medication, we suggest finding a local psychiatrist and are happy to suggest names of local prescribers. If you have a strong relationship with a psychiatrist from home, we recommend that you consider continuing with that provider while here at Brandeis. If you are prescribed medication for ADHD and would like to have a psychiatrist at Brandeis prescribe, you will need to have an up-to-date neuropsychological assessment that has determined that you have ADHD. Please bring a copy of the test report to your intake appointment or have it faxed to the PCC.
