"TWO SPIRITS" -- Discussion on Genders and Sexualities under Global Cultural Context

Sponsored by both Brandeis Queer People of Color Coalition and Brandeis Queer Resource Center, this event is going to examine the intersectionality among genders, sexualities and cultures. The event will begin with a clip of documentary film, "Two Spirits: Sexuality, Gender and the Murder of Fred Martinez", directed by Lydia Nibley. This film, by examining gender and sexual identity of a North American indigenous person, provides a perspective on the relation between Western terminologies and non-Western ones. Based on the theme of this documentary, a discussion will be held on the concepts of genders and sexualities in cross-cultural perspectives within Brandeis student community, particularly, within the context of contemporary post colonial period.
