Lianne Gallant

Lianne (she/her/hers) graduated in 2021 with a joint MA in English and Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies. Her thesis, "Maternal Orientalism: Chinese Transracial Adoption, White Motherhood, and the Construction of the Chinese Birth Mother," examines the ways in which white saviorism, colorblind racism, and American exceptionalism combine to create and sustain a sentimental image of transracial adoption, captured in the form of the heritage trip documentary.

As a scholar/activist, she plans to continue teaching and advocating for social justice in higher education. She hopes to eventually earn a doctorate in Asian American studies and become a professor. Her research interests include transracial adoption studies, critical race theory, and comparative literature of the Americas.
