Employee Assistance availability at this time of sadness

November 21, 2022

Faculty and Staff,

We are deeply saddened by the tragic accident involving the Brandeis shuttle this weekend and our thoughts, prayers, and condolences go out to all those impacted. We recognize that these events can set off a wide range of emotional reactions including deep and sometimes unexpected feelings.

To provide emotional support, the University is offering in-person grief counseling for faculty and staff. Donna Stetson, a counselor from New Horizons (our EAP), will be available in the HR conference room (Bernstein-Marcus, 2nd floor, MS 118) today from 1:00 pm until 3:00 pm. The session will be designed with a group meeting from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm, in-person or virtually via Zoom. Donna will also be available for individual counseling sessions from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm today.

Faculty and staff may also contact New Horizons directly for support, including 24/7 support from licensed counselors. To contact New Horizons:

As a reminder, the Brandeis Counseling Center is available to assist students at any time and can be reached 24/7 at 781-736-3730. In addition, The Dean of Students Office, the Office of Graduate Student Affairs, and the Center for Spiritual Life will be open Monday-Wednesday this week for student support, and additional drop-in spaces will be made available throughout the week.

Sincerely,

Carol Fierke, Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs
Stew Uretsky, Executive Vice President for Finance and Administration
Robin Switzer, Vice President of Human Resources
