The social sciences play a fundamental role within the Brandeis curriculum at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. The majority of all undergraduate students at Brandeis pursue majors in the social sciences, making it the largest teaching division on campus: eight of the 10 largest majors are within the Division. Master's and doctoral programs are also robust.
The Division of Social Sciences includes 20 departments and programs, with many interdisciplinary programs that cross-list courses both within the social sciences and across other sectors in the university, such as the humanities, sciences and arts. Professor of Sociology Wendy Cadge is the current head of the Division of Social Sciences.
Our unit is exemplary in its many courses, programs and experiential learning opportunities devoted to exploring diverse social issues and its multifaceted research into the causes, manifestations, and possible remedies of inequality, conflict and intolerance.
