I received the 2019 Jonathan Lippman Pro Bono Award from the New York State Bar Association’s Senior Lawyers Section. Since retiring from JPMorgan Chase in 2006, I’ve volunteered with the New York Legal Assistance Group, helping low-income seniors obtain Medicaid coverage.

In February, Elizabeth Alexander was a panelist at ’deis IMPACT, the on-campus event that encourages students to explore careers supporting social justice. She discussed litigation related to conditions of prison confinement as part of a panel on criminal justice issues. The Austin Bar Association honored Jeff Civins, senior counsel at Haynes and Boone, with the 2019 Larry F. York Mentoring Award. A former science teacher in New York City, Jeff has been practicing environmental law since 1975 and for the past 27 years has been an adjunct professor at the University of Texas Law School. He reports he is proudest of being grandfather to three exceptional grandsons in Austin, to whom he is known as Jefe (Spanish for “pushover”), and a granddaughter-to-be in Dallas. During the last school year, Elliot Frank left retirement to take over AP biology classes at Watertown (Massachusetts) High School. Now he’s a substitute teacher. David Gerstel wrote the Amazon best-seller “Nail Your Numbers: A Path to Skilled Construction Estimating and Bidding,” which he published through his company Latitude 67 Publishers (named for his Brandeis class). Michael and Pam Rosenthal provided editorial services. David was a recent guest on three episodes of “Building Optimal Radio,” a podcast about the construction industry. Although Robert Greenberg lost a long-shot bid for a seat in the Utah House of Representatives, 2018 was still a good year for his family. “My wife and I made two trips to southern Africa to visit my daughter, son-in-law and the grandkids,” he reports. “And we spent a week wandering around western Sicily on bicycles, marveling at the ruins, and enjoying the good food and scenery. We remain happily ensconced in Moab, although the ever-growing hordes of tourists are rapidly changing the small-town ambience.” Ralph Propper was re-elected president of the Environmental Council of Sacramento, California. Daughter Peri graduated from UC Santa Barbara and is studying in Morocco. Daughter Becca is enjoying the Big Apple. Ralph writes, “Since re-connecting with Patti Paley (aka Tasha) at our 50th Reunion, we’ve enjoyed traveling together.”
