Exempt Status/Benefits

Non-exempt Employees


Paid hourly wage/on the weekly payroll
In accordance with the Fair Labor Standards Act, non-exempt employees are entitled to overtime pay after working 40 hours/week
Weekly/non-exempt employees must have a start date of a Monday
Any chargeline changes to a weekly/non-exempt employee must have a Monday as the effective date

Exempt Employees

Paid a salary/semi-monthly payroll

Exempt employees are not overtime eligible

Any chargeline changes to a semi-monthly/exempt employee must start on either the 1st or the 16th of a month

Postdoc Benefits

Postdocs are considered exempt employees. 

Quoting from Human Resources benefits eligibility page:

"Appointments of at least half-time status for a period of six months or more and who receive salary payments through the university payroll office may enroll in a medical and/or dental insurance plan. The university will contribute toward the cost of the monthly premiums.

Appointments of at least half-time status for a period of six months or more and who are not paid directly by the university may enroll in a medical and/or dental insurance plan but must assume 100 percent of the monthly premiums."
