Apostille

For complete information about the Apostille process, please review the information provided by the Secretary of the Commonwealth. The secretary is the only authorized body that can issue an Apostille.

Diplomas, transcripts and enrollment or degree verification letters must be notarized before they reach the Secretary of the Commonwealth. The Office of the University Registrar can help students and alumni with parts of the Apostille process.

  1. We can notarize any of the documents below:
    • Diplomas: We do not have duplicate copies of diplomas. To obtain an Apostille for your diploma, you must send us your original diploma. If your original diploma has been lost or destroyed, you can order
      a replacement diploma.
    • Transcripts: You can order a transcript via Workday or by sending us a completed and signed transcript request form (PDF). When submitting the transcript request form, please let us know that the transcript must be notarized for the Apostille process.
    • Enrollment or Degree Verification Letters: Students can contact the Office of the University Registrar via email at registrar@brandeis.edu to request a degree certification letter. Please let us know that the certification letter must be notarized for the Apostille process.
  2. You can mail or bring all required documents, including the Apostille request form (PDF), to our office.
    • If you would like us to send your documents to the Secretary of the Commonwealth, you must complete the Apostille cover letter (PDF) and also provide a self-addressed and prepaid envelope for documents to be mailed back to you after the Apostille is complete. As there is a fee required for obtaining an Apostille, be sure to include a check made to “Commonwealth of Massachusetts.” For details about the fees, please see the information on the Secretary of the Commonwealth website.
    • You can also pick up your notarized documents in person at the Office of the University Registrar.
