The HBI supports a range of scholarly activities through its grants and awards. We nurture Jewish gender studies scholars at all points in their careers, from our prize for student papers to our travel grants for young scholars to present papers at the Association for Jewish Studies (AJS) meeting to our research awards for junior and senior scholars. We also have a special prize for translation, which aims to make works of extraordinary scholarly or literary merit available to scholars in a language other than the original.

Our long-running Research Award program supports scholars across a range of disciplines. In addition to traditional fields like history, Israel studies and Judaism, we create awards in fresh categories like gender, culture, religion and the law; women’s health; and Diaspora studies. We also support writers, artists and researchers in the arts through this program. Because of our specific focus on Jews and gender, we are a unique resource.
