For Supervisors

For answers to general questions and step-by-step instructions on how to hire a student employee, see the Student Employment Handbook for Supervisors. You will also find answers to common questions on our Frequently Asked Questions page.

Federal Work-Study or University Employment

Hiring priority is granted to students who are awarded Federal Work-Study or University Employment as part of their financial aid packages. Students who do not have Federal Work-Study or University Employment must wait until Oct. 1 to begin searching for on-campus employment.

If you believe you have a circumstance that requires an exemption from this rule, contact the Office of Student Financial Services for information on how to proceed with an exemption request. No exemptions will be granted for available positions that were not posted campus-wide through the Office of Student Financial Services.

International Students

Incoming international students may not have Social Security numbers when they arrive on campus. However, this should not deter you from hiring a qualified international student. If you would like to hire an international student who is not yet in possession of a Social Security number, complete the International Student Employment Form (pdf).

The student should bring this form, along with a photocopy of the completed New Hire/Rehire Form, to the International Students and Scholars Office in Kutz Hall, room 215. The ISSO will then help the student apply for a Social Security number, after which time the Office of Student Financial Services will assist the student in the completion of Form I-9.

In most cases, the student will be eligible to begin working in 10 to 14 days.

International students who are located outside the United States and have no Social Security numbers are not able to be hired.

Policies

The Office of Student Financial Services will not honor spot jobs, stipends and one-time payments. All jobs must be hourly, paid positions with a job description on file with the Office of Student Financial Services.  All student employees must complete a Form I9 and provide documents which prove their employment eligibility.

All wage rates are subject to the approval of the Office of Student Financial Services. To ensure hiring equity, all available positions must be posted with the Office of Student Financial Services for a minimum of five days.
