Under the supervision of the Site Director/Program Administrator, and with direction from the Child Development and OST Programming Department, the OST Educator plans and implements classroom curriculum, provides homework assistance, communicates information to families, and maintains a safe, healthy, warm, engaging, and attractive environment. Age-appropriate activities should provide for growth in cognitive skills, self-awareness, peer relationships, and character development. The educator conducts him/herself in a caring, responsible, honest, and respectful manner and is a role model for colleagues, as well as for program participants and families. In addition, he/she ensures focus on programming that promotes healthy living, social responsibility, and youth development with the ultimate goal to position the YMCA of Greater Boston to be the child care program of choice for families and school districts, providing the best in outcomes, staff and level of innovation.

Qualifications
This employee ensures:
- Must meet EEC Out-of-School Time Educator requirements.
- Must be diligent regarding the pursuit of education.Excellent public relations and conflict resolution skills in order to facilitate positive relationships with parents, staff, children and outside agencies.
- Commitment to the philosophy and goals of the Y, particularly those identified as outcomes for children participating in YMCA of Greater Boston Early Education and OST programs.
Responsibilities
- Keeps safety of children as first priority; emphasizes personal safety and emotional well-being with the children, parents and early education staff.
- Uses positive and constructive methods of child guidance, while ensuring that all staff does the same.
- Adheres to the rules, regulations and procedures set forth by the YMCA of Greater Boston, the branch location and the Department of Early Education and Care, as applicable.
- Ensures supervision of children and management of smooth transitions to promote safety and appropriate behavior.
- Works with the Site Director in the design of the program space and maintain facility and supplies at all times.
- Assists the Site Director with relevant assessments on a variety of levels throughout the year by means of progress reports, parent surveys and program self-assessment.
- Provides children with a well-balanced curriculum of specific, planned learning experiences that support their social, emotional, physical, cognitive and language development.
- Utilizes a curriculum which is developmentally and linguistically appropriate; provides for the development, interests and temperaments of individual children; supports school day learning and educational development; and includes goals for the knowledge and skills to be acquired by children in various areas of learning.
- Assumes accountability for all children assigned to his/her group and connects daily with parents/guardians.
- Maintains accurate attendance, evaluations, and proper reporting as required.
- Performs other duties as requested by supervisor or branch executive.

TITLE: Out of School Time Program (Group Leader)
SCHEDULE: School year position
Monday - Friday 2:45 pm-6:15pm; additional hours on no-school day, vacation weeks, as program needs - Students must be able to commit to full shifts, but do not need to work all 5 days per week.
SALARY: $17-20/hr based on experience
PRIMARY FUNCTION:
This position assists in developing and implementing program activities for youth in 1st-5th grade. This includes homework assistance, recreational activities, leadership development, education & career development, health & life skills, the arts, and sports & fitness. Maintaining rules and regulations to keep compliant with licensing while always keeping the children’s needs the highest priority is key.
KEY ROLES (Essential Job Responsibilities):
Youth Development-
● Assist with activities that prepare youth for success.
● Maintain the area environment that facilitates the achievement of youth development outcomes
● Communicate with parent/guardians to promote programming and address member concerns
Programming-
● Assist in planning, development and implementation of services and activities such as character & leadership development, education & career development, health & life skills, the arts, and sports, fitness & recreation

● Homework assistance
● Assist with food distribution- snack, dinner etc. Safety

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
● Must be at least 18 years of age
● Meet one of the following requirements:
● Have a minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree or Associate's Degree; and have three months of
● experience working with school age children; OR
● Have a high school diploma or equivalent: and have six months experience working with school
● age children including three months supervised experience at a school age child care program
● Willingness to have fun, be engaging and hands on working with youth

Building relationships and program skill building will be important parts of this position as well.
KEY ROLES (Essential Job Responsibilities):
Youth Development-
● Assist with activities that prepare youth for success.
● Maintain the area environment that facilitates the achievement of youth development outcomes
● Help youth develop healthy social and emotional relationships amongst their peers
● Assist youth in problem solving
Programming-
● Assist with homework or tutoring
● Facilitate programming that may include: STEM, Art, Literacy, Sports & Recreation, and Leadership & Character Development
● Facilitate or assist with assigned groups, clubs or teams
● Assist in program development Safety

● Specialized experience in a program area
● Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
● Willingness to have fun, be engaging and supportive of youth
● Ability to maintain calm and organized in stressful situations
● Offer contingent upon successful CORI, SORI and DCF background record check; as well as the Fingerprint Criminal History Record Information check
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
● Required to drive Club van: 21 years of age, valid Massachusetts Driver’s License, and
clean driving record
● Four year degree in a related field from an accredited college or university.
● A minimum of five years work experience in a Boys & Girls Club or similar organization
planning and supervising activities based on the developmental needs of young people.
● A minimum of two years work experience in a Boys & Girls Club or similar organization
supervising and managing full-time staff.
● Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
● Group leadership skills, including an understanding of group dynamics.
● Demonstrated organizational, staff and project management abilities.
● Must have a valid driver’s license, CPR and First Aid Certifications or willing to obtain
within first 90 days
● Experience with: Teen programming, Licensed Camp Program, STEAM Programming
● Bi-lingual (Spanish English speaking) a plus
