HackMyPhD Goes Month-long in July

Our popular event on PhD career paths inside and outside of academia is back for its fourth year. This time, join us for a month-long series of practical events designed to help graduate students forge innovative careers, understand and leverage their unique skillsets, and take advantage of available opportunities. Save the dates for online workshops in these relevant topics:
July 8, 5.00-6.00pm: How to Rise Above the Downturn
The skills you gained through your PhD can help you thrive in a recession. We have all heard that the PhD job market was challenging even during the economic boom, so what about now, in the recession? Skills developed while earning a PhD can actually give doctoral degree holders an advantage during challenging economic times. Learn how to leverage your strengths as an academically-trained, highly-skilled worker in this practical session. You’ll learn what you have in your skill set as a PhD and what extra preparation you will need to thrive-and how to get that preparation.
July 15, 5.00-6.00pm: Complementary Collaboration: How Industry/Academia Partnerships Work
Looking to partner with industry on an invention, and unsure how such collaboration works? Get inside knowledge from those who have spearheaded industry collaborations, both from academia and industry. You’ll learn potential ways of getting industry-sponsored research opportunities (more funding is always good!) and opportunities to land a job/co-op/internship.
And save the dates for these programs later in July:
  • July 22, 5.00-6.00pm: How to start an interdisciplinary research project?
  • July 29, 5.00-6.00pm: How to build your network outside academia
