The Office of Technology Licensing (OTL) at Brandeis Innovation is the university’s hub for managing, protecting, and commercializing intellectual property (IP). We serve as a strategic partner to Brandeis researchers, inventors, entrepreneurs, and external collaborators, guiding innovations from disclosure to real-world impact.

Our core functions include:

  • Invention Triage & IP Management: We evaluate invention disclosures, manage patent prosecution, and develop IP strategies that align with market potential and academic goals.
  • Technology Marketing & Licensing: We promote Brandeis technologies to potential licensees, negotiate licensing and option agreements, and support commercialization pathways.
  • Agreement Negotiation & Execution: We draft, review, and execute a wide range of research and commercialization agreements, including:
  • Compliance & Reporting: We ensure compliance with federal regulations, including the Bayh-Dole Act, and manage the iEdison reporting for inventions arising from federally funded research.
  • Strategic Partnerships: We maintain long-term relationships with licensees and industry partners, manage license revenue distribution, and support collaborative research opportunities.
  • Internal Collaboration: We work closely with various units across Brandeis—such as the Office of Research Administration, General Counsel, and Sponsored Programs—to ensure seamless support for innovation and research compliance.
  • Entrepreneurial Support: In collaboration with our Virtual Incubator, we provide resources, mentorship, and funding through programs like Spark and Sprout to help faculty and students translate ideas into ventures.

OTL is the bridge between Brandeis research and the broader innovation ecosystem—connecting discoveries to the people, partnerships, and pathways that bring them to life.
