Curricular Practical Training (CPT)
Any international student on an F-1 visa planning on doing an internship in the summer in the U.S. needs to apply for Curricular Practical Training (CPT).
If you are interested in CPT, please complete the pre-internship and post-internship steps below.
Pre-Internship
-
Go to the ISSO website to find the overall instructions for applying for CPT.
-
Follow the instructions on the ISSO checklist./p>
- Once you secure a position, you need to fill in the top part of the Faculty / Staff Recommendation for F-1 Curricular Practical Training form (CPT form) and schedule an appointment with your advisor or a faculty member you know to sign the form.
- Once you complete the CPT form, email a copy of the form and follow the ISSO checklist directions.
- Upload your documents, including the offer letter, to the ISSO website to complete the process.
- Lastly, sign up for the Course 293G (course instructor is the person that signed your form) for the summer. Please contact compsci@brandeis.edu or your course instructor for the consent code.
Post-Internship
In order to receive credit, you must submit a post-internship Reflection Report. Review the report requirements at the start of your internship and work on the report throughout the summer as your internship progresses.
At the end of your internship:
- Ask your hiring manager to sign your CPT Reflection Report
- Bring the signed CPT Reflection Report to the faculty member that signed your form so you can receive credit for that course.
Note: This is due at the end of your internship!
