Dependent Care Resource and Referral Program

Bright Horizons Back-Up Care

Is ideal when your normal dependent-care services fall through due to cancellation, school closing, etc., or when you simply need an extra hand.  Benefits-eligible faculty, staff, postdocs as well as full time phD student may utilize the program.  

Back-Up Child Dependent Care

Provides up to five days per year of back-up child care at subsidized rates. Under the first phase of the pilot program, center-based care is $15 per child per day ($25 per family per day) and in-home care is $6 per hour (minimum of four hours) and you also have the option to secure care from you own personal network (a neighbor, friend, or babysitter) and receive a reimbursement of $100 per day. Back-Up Elder and Adult Care

Provides up to five days per year of back-up elder and adult care at subsidized rates. Under the first phase of the pilot program, at-home or in-center care for adults is $6 per hour (minimum of four hours) or receive a reimbursement of $100 per day. Bright Horizons Additional Family Supports

When you have to work, you need support for your family, especially right now.

Whether school’s closed, a regular caregiver is unavailable or you need a care provider for your mom, dad or elder relative, rely on Bright Horizons Additional Family Supports to help you find:

  • Sitters, virtual sitting, housekeepers and pet care through a premium account on Sittercity, which includes a waived membership fee ($150 value) and free basic background checks.
  • Discounts on a local, high-touch placement service of trained, screened nannies for full-time child care.
  • Senior care solutions, including care companions, an online needs assessment, senior housing search and evaluation tools, and more.

  1. Point browser to https://backup.brighthorizons.com.
  2. Click the button "First-Time User."
  3. Login by entering employer username (Brandeis) and password (Benefits4You).
  4. Complete the form and then click the "Register" button.

Program Administration

This program is coordinated by the Office of Human Resources' benefits unit, and is provided by Bright Horizons by contract and by other publicly available resources that have been gathered for your convenience. Brandeis University does not have internal dependent care counseling, guidance or expertise to provide to members of the Brandeis community.

Program Components

  • Elder care online resource information (login req.) assembled by Bright Horizons.
  • Preferred access to Bright Horizon care centers in our region. This is preferred enrollment access only; no tuition discounts are offered for these centers.
  • Preferred access to Bright Horizon partnership centers in our region. These centers are operated independently and also may offer tuition discounts to employers in this program.

Note: The resources in this program are made available by human resources, but HR does not have staff training or resources to offer in-person counseling on dependent care.
