Brandeis Innovation is excited to announce the Keynote for the second annual HackMyPhD conference. Entrepreneur and scientist Jonathan Thon will share his journey as an innovator and researcher:
Jonathan Thon, Ph.D., is the co-founder, CEO and Chief Scientific Officer of Platelet BioGenesis. Dr. Thon is a leader in platelet science and has published more than 30 peer-reviewed articles on platelet production and storage. Prior to co-founding Platelet BioGenesis he was an assistant professor at Harvard Medical School and ran his own lab at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, where he retains an academic appointment. He earned his Ph.D. in biochemistry and molecular biology at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver.
HackMyPhD is a daylong event that will introduce entrepreneurship and startups for PhD and Postdocs in STEM fields. At HackMyPhD, you'll:

  • Get first-hand career advice from entrepreneurs and business leaders who have made the transition from the lab to the boardroom

9:00am - 10:00am Opening remarks by Rebecca Menapace, Associate Provost for Innovation and Executive Director, Office of Technology Licensing & Hassenfeld Family Innovation Center
Keynote by Jonathan Thon, Ph.D.
10:00am - 11:00am: Listen to panelists discuss their decisions made, lessons learned, pitfalls survived, and how the skills gained through their PhD set them on the course of a successful entrepreneurial career.
Speakers include: Ajoy Basu, Irena Ivanovska, and Vipin Suri, '08
11:00am - 12:00pm: Panelists will speak about their assessment of opportunities in the wide and varied field of entrepreneurship and touch upon other channels such as industry (entrepreneurship), venture capital, government, etc.
Speakers include: Anne Joseph, '16 and Eric S.Furfine, '88 .
12:00pm - 1:30pm: Small Group Discussions & Working Lunch With Speakers who will go around to talk and brainstorm with attendees about their future career plans .
1:30pm - 2:30pm: NSF I-CORPS  Fellowship Demos will showcase Brandeis University's hard-working students' innovative start up ideas in biotech, high tech, and more.
2:45pm - 3:30pm: Develop your personal career plan. Map out your post-PhD goals with guidance from those who have gone the entrepreneurial route.
