Two New Reports Highlight
Brandeis Innovation's Impact
The results are in: Brandeis Innovation made a significant impact on the Brandeis community, the biotech ecosystem, and the Boston startup sector in FY 2018.
Two new reports quantify this impact:
- The FY 18 Highlights report, which details the main activities of Brandeis Innovation, including licensing activities, public outreach and entrepreneurship programming. It also provides pertinent metrics based on these innovation activities.
- The first annual Innovation Impact Report, which examines the reach of innovation programs campus-wide, as well as startup generation activity that has led to viable companies. It provides a comprehensive view of innovation activity throughout Brandeis.
The reports show that Brandeis Innovation programs have generated significant revenue for Brandeis:
- The Office of Technology Licensing has secured 37 active licenses for companies to use technologies created at Brandeis, generating a record $2.9 Million in revenue for Brandeis
- In FY 18, 10 new patents were secured for Brandeis inventions, all of which have strong commercial potential.
When it comes to the impact of innovation programs within Brandeis, the numbers tell an equally strong story:
- 30 successful projects and startups have been launched out of Brandeis Innovation, including 12 active companies
- 750 hours of training have been provided to Brandeis students, faculty, and staff. Over 1,500 members of the Brandeis community have participated in innovation activities on campus.
Finally, as Brandeis seeks to build more bridges off-campus and increase recognition for the university, the external outreach numbers are also compelling:
- 1,600+ investors, business professionals, and other external members of the Boston tech community have come to campus to learn more about innovation at Brandeis.
Together, these reports show the strong impact of Brandeis Innovation, including revenue generation, commercializing vital technologies, increasing the skillsets of Brandesians, and building unprecedented connections.

Recap of March's Events
120th Mass Innovation Nights: Brandeis and Waltham Edition
March 14
For the second year in a row, Mass Innovation Nights returned to Brandeis on Pi Day and welcomed an audience of Boston's innovation community to meet and greet the startups emerging from Brandeis' labs, dorms, and classrooms.
The startup teams participating ranged from Greenchoice, a mobile application helping you make conscious grocery shopping decisions, to SciLinkR, a platform for science outreach, and Roselle, a natural cosmetics brand. It was a great opportunity for the world to see what's happening in innovation at Brandeis.
SPROUT Bootcamp
March 20th
The SPROUT Program, designed to identify Brandeis bench research with strong potential to become a commercial product, accepted pre-applications from Brandeis scientists earlier in March. A select group of applicants will receive grants to develop their innovations. As the teams continue with their grant proposals, we hosted the fifth annual SPROUT Bootcamp to help teams build and strengthen their proposals and provide them with all the tips and tricks they need to create the perfect pitch.
