2019 Schedule for Department and School Council Meetings

This page will be updated in late April with information for Commencement 2020.

All majors and minors must be verified for completion of requirements and determination of honors for graduating seniors before 11 a.m. on Tuesday, May 14, 2019.

All departments / programs that meet for such determinations will gather at 9:30 a.m. on that day at the meeting locations listed below. (Independent interdisciplinary major committees will meet at times and locations designated by their respective chairs. Special major completion materials will be delivered to the home department of the IIM chairpersons on or before Monday morning.)

Immediately upon the completion of the departmental deliberations (between 10 and 11:15 a.m.), department chairs are asked to submit their results to the registrar’s office (Kutz 121) and to verify their degree check-out sheets with staff members there. These documents must be reviewed for accuracy and completeness.

On Tuesday, May 14, at 11:30 a.m., department chairs will attend School Council meetings and may raise any questions or problems related to the recommendations of the department. The meeting rooms are listed below.

On Wednesday, May 15, at 3 p.m., council chairs are asked to attend the meeting of the Committee on Academic Standing in the study abroad conference room (Usdan 169), where they recommend the candidates for the degree on behalf of their schools. Council chairs may request the university registrar to act as their proxy at this meeting.

Faculty should refrain from informing students about the award of honors until after the faculty meeting on Thursday, May 16, at 2 p.m. in Rapaporte Treasure Hall at the library.

Verification of Minor Requirements

The following programs should verify the completion of requirements for their minors and submit the results at to the registrar’s office (Kutz 121) on or before Tuesday, May 14, at 11 a.m.

  • Report department/program recommendations on Tuesday between 10 and 11:15 a.m. to the university registrar at Kutz 121. (Keep a photocopy for your reference at the faculty meeting.)
  • Attend School Council meeting on Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. See above for location.
  • Attend faculty meeting on Thursday at 2 p.m.
  • Attend Commencement on Sunday.
