Center for Teaching and Learning

January 2021 Hybrid Teaching Institute

The Center for Teaching and Learning is proud to offer the four-session Hybrid Teaching Institute again. Instructors who were unable to attend the fall 2020 institute are encouraged to register. Last summer, nearly 500 members of the Brandeis teaching community completed this Institute before the fall semester. Many have reached out to express how important the Institute was to supporting their teaching this term. We hope you’ll join us!

Benefits

The Hybrid Teaching Institute will help you to adopt evidence-based, online teaching practices that can reduce the increased equity gaps that occur in an online educational context [Gavassa et al. 2019, Howard et al. 2019, Verschelden 2017, Xu et al. 2014]. By the end of the Institute, you’ll be prepared, in a partially online setting, to provide a very close approximation of the highly interactive, equitable, inclusive educational experience that distinguishes Brandeis.

What is Hybrid Instruction?

What is hybrid instruction

Hybrid Instruction

Brad Wheeler, Associate Director Center for Teaching and Learning

Hybrid instruction intentionally combines the best aspects of online and onsite instruction, using both asynchronous and synchronous opportunities to combine independent work with collaborative, engaged peer learning and direct teacher/student communication. Hybrid instruction also provides instructors with an opportunity to incorporate technology tools into their teaching -- a skill set that will transfer to face-to-face teaching as well!
