Almost all graduate students live off campus: Approximately 50% live in the Waltham area, while the other 50% live in surrounding cities and towns, primarily in Cambridge or Somerville. For more information on our housing resources, please check out our housing resources website.
For Help Off-campus
Call 911 in an emergency with a follow-up call to Public Safety at 781-736-5000.
Any graduate student experiencing distress can reach out to the Office of Graduate Affairs. Although staff at this office are not confidential, they are not directly connected with any academic school and so can provide another layer of privacy from your particular department or program. Graduate Affairs staff can also help to find the appropriate person with whom you can work with, depending on the situation.
If you or one of your peers is experiencing distress, please fill out an I Care Form. This is not an emergency form (it may take 24 hours for a response), but members of the Care Team will take appropriate action to support the student.

Graduate students who need academic support can always reach out to the Office of Graduate Affairs. Staff there can either help directly, or point you to the right resource. Generally speaking, if you're having an academic issue, it is best to first speak with your professor and/or your adviser. If that doesn't help, or isn't possible, you can turn to the director of graduate studies (DGS), the program director or chair of the department.
