At Brandeis, most websites are edited using Cascade Server, our content management system (CMS). The CMS is a web-based application that provides a central place for website creation and editing.
CMS Training is offered at regular intervals throughout the year. New web editors must attend CMS Training to activate their Cascade account, regardless of any prior web editing experience.
Which training(s) do I need?
Audience: This class is mandatory for new web editors of sites in the new standard university web templates (sites that look like this one). Please enroll in this class only if the site you will be editing is already in the new templates or close to launching.
Overview: Learn the basics of maintaining and editing a website the new web templates. As a web editor, you will learn best practices for editing web content at Brandeis, overview of responsive and accessible web content, how to navigate the CMS and how to and publish content.
Audience: This class is mandatory for all web editors (regardless of templates used).
Overview: Accessible web content is usable by all people, regardless of physical or developmental abilities or impairments. At Brandeis, we have a responsibility to make sure everything we put online — from videos to photos to how we organize content and create links — is as accessible as possible. In this class, you will learn why accessibility is important and how to make various types of content accessible.
Audience: This class is mandatory for web editors of sites in the zeta templates (the “old” standard university templates) — or editors of Brandeis websites using Cascade Server, but not the standard university templates (for example: Heller, IBS, GPS, Alumni/Giving, Admissions). Existing web editors are welcome to retake this class at any time.
Overview: Learn the basics of maintaining and editing a website in Cascade Server. As a web editor, you will learn best practices for editing web content at Brandeis, how to navigate the CMS and how to publish content.
