403(b) plans for postdocs
Summary
403(b) plans are what the university uses for retirement benefits, not 401(k). They are tax-sheltered.
If you are a Postdoctoral Fellow you earn a stipend, not a salary - you are not eligible to participate. This has other tax implications.
If you are a Postdoctoral Associate, you earn a salary, not a stipend -- you can participate in a 403(b) plan, but the university will not match your contributions.
