Why Apply?

Each year out of 200 applicants, 15 outstanding students who attend underserved high schools, experience hardship, and/or often have not had access to rigorous college preparatory courses are admitted to Brandeis through the MKAP. Students who enter Brandeis through the MKAP have a life-changing experience, and have their stories of success added to the university's thousands of living testimonies of true ambition, resilience, courage, and triumph.

Each applicant must be projected to complete high school or its equivalent (e.g., earning a GED) prior to the start of their matriculation at Brandeis.


Each applicant must submit the following materials by January 2nd:

  1. Fill out Brandeis' Common Application. Please check out the Brandeis undergraduate application page for complete information. We will notify students concerning their consideration in the program. 
  2. Send official copies of all high school transcripts and/or GED certificates. Please note, GED certificate recipients are required to submit their SAT or ACT test results.
  3. Submit your mid-year report from senior year that includes grades for all classes.
  4. Check one selection from our test-optional options.
  5. Send official transcript(s) for any course(s) taken at the post-secondary school level.
  6. Provide two letters of recommendation, preferably from teachers, mentors, employers, etc.
  7. Write one 800-word personal statement to answer the Common Application prompt.
  8. Send a copy of your U.S. Permanent Resident Visa (Green Card) if that is your current status.*
  9. Complete the FAFSA and CSS Profile* by February 1st.
  10. OPTIONAL - Write one 500-word essay about what makes you a good candidate for the MKAP and email it to

* Undocumented students, with or without Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA), Temporary Protected Status students, and those with Asylum Status are welcome and encouraged to apply to MKAP and will be given full consideration for admission.  

Financial Aid

Each applicant must submit the following materials by February 1st:

  1. A complete 2024-25 FAFSA (Free Application for Financial Student Aid).
  2. A complete 2024-25 CSS Profile through College Board.
  3. A copy of your 2019 Parent and Student Tax Returns, including W2s and Schedules.
  4. A copy of your U.S. Permanent Resident Visa (Green Card) if not a U.S. citizen.

Brandeis University will meet 100 percent of calculated institutional financial need as determined by the CSS Profile and federal income-tax returns for each year of an admitted MKAP student's attendance. A typical financial-aid package will consist of a need-based scholarship, grants, loans and/or a work-study award.
