Ryan is a senior from Millstone, New Jersey, studying Chemical Biology here at Brandeis. Apart from his studies, Ryan works as an SI Leader for General Chemistry and also as a biochemical research assistant in the Oprian Lab on campus. Additionally, Ryan is an EMT and a part of BEMCo, where he takes the occasional shift, and some other clubs he partakes in include Quiz Bowl and Astronomy Club. Katherine Bulthuis (she/her) is a junior at Brandeis University majoring in Theater Arts with a minor in German Studies. Passionate about global citizenship and foreign language education, Katherine lived in Germany with the Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange and has taught German for three years at Concordia Language Villages. Yelenny Cruz (she/her) is a sophomore from Brooklyn, NY, and proudly Dominican. She is a double major in Hispanic Studies and Sociology and is an MKAP Fellow. Yelenny is passionate about understanding social inequalities, culture, and identity, and how these intersect with language and community. Lance Rothchild is a senior studying Hispanic Studies and History, returning for his third year as a BUGS tutor. Lance spent the spring semester studying at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid, where he earned a C1 DELE certificate from the Cervantes Institute. Lance wears many hats. Apart from BUGS, you can find Lance at History of Ideas events (he’s one of the UDRs), False Advertising improv shows (he’s the president), or at the Mandel Center (he’s a research assistant). Lance’s other interests include “Sultans of Swing,” “Money for Nothing,” and “Industrial Disease.”Lance has been studying Spanish for nearly a decade, and he’d love to do whatever he can to help you excel in your HISP courses. Grant Dockery is originally from Lakeland, Florida. In 2023, they were accepted to Brandeis as a Midyear and got to study abroad in Florence (Firenze), Italy. They then developed a deep appreciation for learning various languages. They studied abroad the following summer in Sorrento, Italy, and became an Italian Studies minor. Grant is now a study abroad ambassador for 2 programs: IES Freiburg and Sant'Anna Institute.
Grant is currently majoring in European Cultural Studies and Politics in addition to minoring in Economics and Italian Studies; they are pursuing a future International Relations IIM as well as a legal studies minor. In their spare time, Grant likes to write stories, create films, and watch horror movies. Grant is part of Brandeis' Television and Peace Clubs, works at Professor Jytte Klausen's Western Extremism Project, and enjoys Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and MMA.

Ansel is a junior from Nanjing, China, majoring in WGS and Philosophy. They are interested in Japanese aesthetics and fashion. Ansel has been learning Japanese since primary school and lived in Japan for several years before the pandemic. Based on their own experience learning Japanese, they could offer specific advice for non-native speakers and would like to tutor students preparing for the JLPT. Ansel is also a Tokyo expert.
