Antivirus Protection
ITS is upgrading the current antivirus/malware tool to ensure that Brandeis maintains a secure computing environment against malicious activity. enSilo will replace Symantec and Malwarebytes as the new endpoint security protection tool that is designed to stop advanced cyber threats, viruses and malware, in real-time.
ITS will begin installing enSilo on university-owned desktops and laptops starting in late January 2019. The deployment process has been designed to have minimal to no impact on you and your machine. No action is required on your part as the installation will run silently in the background, will not affect computer software or performance, and a computer reboot will not be required.

Any device, such as a computer, smartphone or tablet, that is connected to the Brandeis network provides an entry point for possible cyber threats. Endpoint security protection aims to adequately provide a secure connection to the Brandeis network against viruses and malware specifically on university-owned computers.
enSilo is the endpoint security protection tool that Brandeis has selected to replace Symantec and Malwarebytes. enSilo is designed to protect the execution of antivirus/malware, ransomware and other suspicious activity on your machine. Unlike a traditional antivirus/anti-malware software which may require a scan to be initiated, enSilo works in real-time to detect and prevent unknown or malicious activity on your machine.
ITS will push the installation of enSilo to university-owned, centrally managed machines. The installation runs silently in the background and generally takes about a minute or two.
When the installation is complete, you will see a green and black circle icon in your system tray or menu bar as shown below. This confirms that the software is installed and enabled.

You're all set — no action is required on your part; no need to run a manual or period anti-virus scan. enSilo is designed to protect your machine in real-time by detecting and preventing any unknown or malicious activity on your machine.
Good news, there will be minimal to no impact on your computer's performance. The enSilo endpoint security protection tool is designed to use less than 1% of computer processing power.
